Director-General of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, Barrister Eugene Azuka Uzum, has said that the bureau would partner the state fire service command towards the prevention of fire outbreaks in the state.
Barrister Uzum hinted this when he visited the Director in charge of the command, Mr Eugene Oziwele, in his office in Asaba.
Barrister Uzum noted that the role of the command in preventing and combating fire outbreaks in the state was enormous, adding that there was the need to get closer to the command to keep abreast with its operations, constraints and visions for fire prevention in the state.
The Orientation DG maintained that partnering the command would deepen the sensitisation drive of the bureau towards the enlightenment of the general public on how to forestall fire outbreaks in the state.
Responding, Mr Oziwele thanked Barrister Uzum for the visit, saying that it was timely, considering the need to redouble efforts at preventing fire outbreaks as the Yuletide draws closer.
He said that many residents in the state were still ignorant of causes of fire outbreaks, adding that indiscriminate bush burning, giving minors access to tinder or matches box, keeping bushes around buildings and residential houses.
Indiscriminate dispensing of cooking gas and many other preventable reasons were causes of fire outbreaks, just as he decried the incessant falling of motor tankers and spilling flammable petroleum products on highways , in cities and towns across the country.
